Slowly she
stretched out her legs
Reaching for the
last of the sun’s rays
She wound herself
around a chair leg
Then bounded off,
jumping at a spot on the wall
Slowly and quietly
she stepped through the grass
Her body moved with
a rhythm
That declared her
independence
Despite this I
approached her carefully
I reached down to
scratch her head and she purred
Realizing that she
needed me as much as I need her
