A Moment on Stage

As I watched the young dancers
Move quickly across the stage
With such flexibility and grace
I longed to be young again
And be able to dance like them
Then I remembered a few weeks ago
I tap danced on a stage with my class
Maybe without their ability
But I know what it’s like to dance
On a stage before an audience

I floated from my seat to the stage
My feet touched the black surface
And I joined the group of dancers
I felt the hot lights upon my face
And my body flowed with the music
Suddenly I was in the air
Strong hands lifted me up
My foot touched the stage
And I was turning round and round
Then I leapt across the stage
Following the other dancers
I felt free and light, no arthritis
My body moved in amazing ways
I spun around, turning quickly

And suddenly it was all over
There was applause and we bowed
Then I was in my seat, applauding
With the rest of the audience
